Outside of Highline College, below are other community resources you can access to support you in your personal, academic, and professional goals.

  • Apple Health Foster Care Program is the statewide managed healthcare program designed to support children and youth in foster care, children and youth in adoption support, youth adults in extended foster care (18-21 year-olds), young adults age 18-26 who aged out of foster care, and children and youth reunified with their parents (eligible for 12 months after foster care ends).
  • College Success Foundation organizes the Governor’s Scholarship and the Way to Go! summer experiences for high school youth in foster care. They also provide additional academic, personal, and funding support for Passport students and alumni of care.
  • Educational Training Voucher provides financial assistance to eligible students to attend an accredited college, university, or vocational/technical college. Students must apply each year and can receive up to $5,000/year, depending on their unmet financial need. Running Start students may be eligible for up to $2,000/year.
  • Extended Foster Care Program provides opportunities for young adults who were a dependent of WA state at age 18, to voluntarily agree to continue receiving foster care services, including placement services, while working on goals towards independence. Services include foster care placement or supervised independent living, medical/dental assistance, transitional living services, case management, and community referrals.
  • Foster Youth College Resources provides a list of resources specifically for foster youth and former foster youth.
  • Governor’s Scholarship is a scholarship program to support young from foster care continue their education and earn a college degree. Scholarships range from $2,000-$4,000/year and is renewable up to five years. Applicants must be a high school senior on track to graduate in June of the year they apply.
  • Leadership 1000 is a scholarship program for graduating high school seniors from eligible high schools. The scholarship is up to $5,000/year and is renewable.
  • Mockingbird Society is an advocacy organization that provide meaningful opportunities for youth against WA state to participate in social justice efforts to improve the foster care system.
  • Passport to College is a state-wide scholarship program for eligible youth and alumni of care. This scholarship is available to youth in care after the age of 14 (13 starting in July 2020) until their 27th birthday.
  • Pierce County Alliance provides support through programs like Independent Living for those who age of out foster care, Independent Youth Housing Program & Family Unification Program for young adults ages 18-23 to receive housing assistance, and SETuP for youth in care ages 13-21 to receive their high school diploma or GED.
  • Seattle YMCA provides support through programs like Independent Living for those who age of out foster care, YV Live Set for alumni of care age 18-22, and SETuP for youth in care ages 13-21 to receive their high school diploma or GED.
  • Treehouse for Kids provides support to youth in foster care to pursue their dreams and launch successfully into adulthood. Services include academic support, Launch Success for post-high school youth, the Wearhouse, financial support, and driver’s assistance.
  • Washboard.org connects Washington states to Washington scholarship providers based on their academic goals, location, personal experiences, and more.
